Credit notes (corrective tax documents)

A credit note (formally a corrective tax document) is a document with which you correct a previously issued invoice — typically when goods are returned, a discount is granted after issue, or a complaint is made. In Danito you always create a credit note with a link to the original invoice, so that your accountant can correctly reconcile the two documents.

Steps

  1. Find the original invoice in the Invoices list.
  2. In the invoice detail, click Issue credit note.
  3. Danito pre-fills the header from the original invoice (customer, company ID (IČO), VAT ID (DIČ), numbers, dates). Fill in:
    • the reason for the correction (e.g. "Complaint — return of goods"),
    • the items being corrected (the full amount, or a partial correction).
  4. Check the calculated values (negative VAT amounts are reflected in the VAT return as a reduction of the payment due).
  5. Click Issue credit note. The credit note receives its own number from the numbering series but keeps a reference to the original invoice in its header.

A credit note enters the VAT return in the period of the date of the taxable supply and the exports for your accountant just like a regular invoice — only with the opposite sign.
